I received a Juror Choice recognition from Carol Newberg for one of my pieces in the upcoming exhibit at the San Francisco Women Artists Gallery. The OPENING for this exhibit is February 8, 2018 from 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. 647 Irving Street at 8th Avenue. The theme of the exhibit is Eye of the Beholder.
"Grandmother," which is in the exhibit, was made without a camera. I love my Grandmother's doilies, and I imagine her and her friends in a small town in Oklahoma doing hand work together. I put the doilies on a scanner, pressed one of my collages in progress down on top of it, and scanned the overlapping works of art.
San Francisco was in a drought for so long that I really missed the rain. When it finally started raining again, I remember going to the Safeway on Market. When I got out of my car I saw this amazing sheen of rain on top of oil that had been building up for a long time without being washed away. I took out my cell phone and started taking pictures to just enjoy the experience of the rain even more. This resulted in the picture,"Parking Lot Rainbow," which received the Juror's Choice award.
